There is nothing Richard enjoys more than sharing his knowledge and passion for wine. He strongly believes that wine is to be enjoyed by all and is generally fed up with stuffy and arrogant approach of most wine courses.
Richard’s journey into wine started at a young age. His grandparents were winegrowers in Somerset, and he loved the family gatherings during the annual harvest. The seed of interest grew into a more serious quest for wine knowledge with regular trips to France in his late teens and from there a love of all things vinous was born. He founded a wine merchant in 1996, which he ran for more than 18 years before merging with another merchant. As well as founder of Wimbledon Wine School, Richard is the owner of Brompton Wine.
He is very widely travelled and has strong links with independent growers from all over the world – from the famous regions in France through to small growers in Tasmania and South Africa.
He studied Classical Archaeology at UCL and has been a regular visitor to Greece from the age of 16, taking part in several archaeological excavations– mainly in the Peloponnese.
Always looking to improve his wine knowledge he has recently completed the demanding WSET Level 4 Diploma and the WSET Educator Programme. He is also a wine judge for the IWSC.
These days when he isn’t selling wine or talking about wine, you might find him travelling around vineyards with his trusted tasting companion – Bella the Hungarian Vizsla!
